| Welcome To the Site For Race For Hope. October 2008 October 13, 2008 WOW what a beautiful day and a beautiful turnout. Thanks to all of you that gave up part of your Sunday to support Race for hope, to support your loved ones affected by cancer, to celebrate your survival or to give memory to loved ones lost to cancer. Thank you to the volunteers...really this event would not take place without your continued support. Thank you to the sponsors whose financial commitment make this race possible. I want to give a special thank you to Dr. Caligiuri for taking time to be at Race for hope and for his inspiring talk. I'd like to thank Arnett Howard for giving us musical entertainment on the course...he was a trooper in the warm weather as he played OSU fight songs on the trumpet. And thanks to Jon from 105.7 The Brew for staying longer than he was planning to keep the music going after the race. Please visit the sponsor page and the supporter page to see all the wonderful companies, people, and organizations that have contributed to the success of the day. So many wonderful things can happen to help those affected with cancer if we all come together to help...many steps to bring Hope. 2008 Wrap Up RACE DETAILS Congratulations to the top male and female finishers: Race for Hope is proud to have this talent in the field. Colon cancer is the number 2 cause of cancer deaths in the United States and it is affecting many people under the age of 50. Early detection greatly increase the chances of surviving colon cancer. Please talk with you Doctor about colon cancer, know you family history, and don't just think of it as an "old person's disease. Peggy was 42 when diagnosed, our 2006 hope award recipient is 23 and is fighting stage 3 colon cancer, a scholarship has been started in memory of Martin Metzger who died of colon cancer in his forties. Again...talk to your Doctor The mission of this race is; • to be an educational day for the community as well as a day of support and hope for all cancer patients, their friends, and families. • to raise research dollar’s. • to promote a healthy lifestyle by giving people an opportunity to run and walk for a worthwhile cause. • to promote early screening so that early treatment can begin. •to let people know that colon cancer is the number 2 cause of cancer deaths in the United States and if caught early it has a 90% survival rate. |
